The Ottawa Women’s Cycling Club (OWCC) is a dynamic and engaged cycling club in Canada, founded by and for women. What began as a local initiative has grown into a thriving association with over one hundred members. The club is entirely run by volunteers and focuses on creating a positive and supportive environment where women can ride, learn, and grow together—regardless of age, experience, or fitness level.
“There are no limits to what the women in our club can achieve,” says Caitlin Crooks, who has now taken on the role of Cyql expert within OWCC. “Whether you’re just starting out or have years of cycling experience, for us it’s all about fun, connection, and confidence on the bike.”

Digitizing without the hassle
At the start of this season, the board decided it was time to improve ride management and internal communication. With a growing number of members and more and more activities, it became clear that spreadsheets, scattered messages, and emails were no longer sufficient. Board member Melanie set out to find a solution that would be both user-friendly and efficient. That search quickly led to Cyql.
“It was the clear winner,” says Caitlin. “Cyql offered exactly what we needed: one central place for everything related to our club and rides.”
Key strength: clarity and ease of use
Currently, 110 members actively use the app. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, especially regarding the platform’s simplicity and clarity.
“As soon as you open Cyql, you know what’s going on. Creating rides, signing up, communicating — it all just works intuitively. That makes things a lot easier for both the board and the members.”
Ideas for future features
While overall satisfaction is high, OWCC is also providing constructive input on potential improvements. One suggestion is to enable personal communication between members within the app: “Right now, you can only communicate with people who have signed up for a ride. It would be great if you could also send messages individually or in groups.”
Another wish is for a timeline featuring recent rides, comments, and photos — a kind of social overview of everything happening within the club. “It would show non-participants what they’re missing and hopefully encourage them to join the next ride.”
